Our Mission

The goals of the Merriam Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) are to promote and facilitate parent and faculty communication; advocate for Merriam students; encourage parent involvement in the Merriam community; enhance Merriam community relations; and raise funds to enrich the educational experience at Merriam School.

Merriam PTO Board 2008-09 Message of Thanks to all Volunteers

Thank you, thank you, to all parents who generously donated their time and energy to help meet the PTO goal of raising money to fund the classroom assistants. We are so fortunate to have a dedicated Merriam Community who help out doing everything from baking, to copying, to planning whole events, and organizing specific fundraisers. We enjoyed working with each of you and look forward to continuing the success of past years in 2009-10.

Here are two great resources from our PTO Community Conversation 'Children in Nature': www.cnaturenet.org - a network of naturalists sharing studies that show the positive effects of nature calming kids and in some cases improving their health.

Richard Louv's book "Last Child in the Woods" lists 100 actions parents can take to bring kids closer to nature. The book can be found in the library and at local bookstores.
