Ed Kaufman Scholarship Fund

Ed Kaufman Scholarship Fund

The Merriam School community is very excited to announce a wonderful
opportunity for all those who wish to contribute to a scholarship fund in honor of
retiring principal Ed Kaufman. This scholarship will be given annually to students
graduating from Acton Boxborough Regional High School during the their
Scholarship Night ceremony. The students receiving the scholarships will have
attended Merriam School and will have stood out during their high school careers
by their contribution to building relationships within groups.
Ed began his career working for two years for the National Park Service, in the
Badlands of South Dakota. He then moved into teaching; from 1979-1986 Ed taught
grades K, 3, 4 and 7 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and in Colchester, Vermont. Along the
way, Ed obtained his Master’s in Psychology at the University of Vermont. From
1986 – 1995, Ed was a Counselor at the Harvard University Bureau of Study Counsel,
offering academic and other counseling services to Harvard students. In addition,
from 1990 – 2008, Ed taught at Cambridge College, including courses on critical
thinking, mathematics, psychology, group dynamics, and educational teaching and
learning seminars. In 1995, Ed joined the Merriam School community as a grade 5
and 6 mixed grade teacher. He then spent 10 years teaching grades 5 and 6 looping
classes. In 2008, Ed Kaufman took on the role of Merriam School principal. He has
spent the last ten years committed to seeking the best educational opportunities for
students, and supporting teachers, staff, and families. He has served on multiple
committees in the district and has given much towards the educational successes of
students and teachers alike.
Ed currently lives locally with his wife. He has two daughters, one son-in-law and an
incredibly adorable granddaughter that he plans to spend time getting to know.
While being with family, remaining healthy, and “feeding his soul,” walking away
from education is not on the list. Ed plans to be a part time educational consultant
with themes of building relational trust in schools, helping teams work well,
deepening relationships and building strong learning communities.
Your donation will enable us not only to honor Ed’s commitment to education, but
also to promote and invest in supporting youth who hope to pursue careers that
support education and building relationships.
Please join us in this effort by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Ed
Kaufman Scholarship Fund. Whether $5, $20, or more, whatever amount you can
contribute will impact a Merriam School graduate. These funds go directly to the
recipient to fulfill their educational pursuits.
The contribution sheet is attached. If you have any questions or would like more
information about the fund, please contact Karen Sonner at ksonner@abschools.org.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
