Fall Appeal!

WHY DO WE RAISE FUNDS?
Feedback from the Merriam community is that families would prefer to donate in the fall in order to reduce the number of fundraising events held during the school year. This input, combined with a shrinking volunteer pool and the budgetary need to increase our fundraising goal to $90,000, has prompted us to once again hold a Fall Appeal this September. The Fall Appeal will give us a jump

HOW DID THE PTO DECIDE ON $250 PER FAMILY?
The fundraising goal for the 2016-17 school year is $90,000. If you take that goal and divide it by the total number of families at Merriam School, the result is $250/family. If each family donates $250 at the beginning of the school year, we’ll reach our goal without any additional fundraising.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE MEET OUR GOAL WITH THE FALL APPEAL?
If we raise $40,000 from the Fall Appeal, the PTO will not be required to hold the annual Auction in March. Rather, the PTO will be able to focus its efforts on community-oriented events apart from fundraising. Merriam community events
include: the Fall Fair, PTO/Staff Basketball Game, Book Fair, Camp Fair, and Camp Auction.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DO NOT MEET OUR GOAL WITH THE FALL APPEAL?
If the Fall Appeal does not raise a minimum of $40,000, the PTO will hold the Auction in some capacity, likely an online version. Should this occur, we will be reaching out to the Merriam community for help to make this event happen.  Auctions require many hands and lots of work to be successful.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Donate to the Fall Appeal. The PTO understands that families will donate varying amounts. Any amount that you can give is greatly appreciated. Families who donate $250 or more will receive a special Merriam spirit item as a thank you. Merriam PTO is a 501(c)(3) organization, making your donation tax deductible. If your family is not in a position to donate funds, please donate some of your time to one of our community events.

HOW DO I DONATE?
For your convenience, you can donate online at http://www.merriampto.org/donate.html using PayPal or BiddingForGood. If you choose to donate using BiddingForGood, simply click on the “Donate Cash” link on the left-hand side. Or, send a check into the school office made payable to “Merriam PTO” by Friday, October 28th.

WHAT ABOUT COMPANY/EMPLOYER DONATION MATCHING?
Your gift may be eligible for fund matching by your employer. Please check with your employer about whether they have a contribution matching program. If your company does have a matching program, please inform them of your donation and have them make their matching funds payable to “Merriam PTO”. These funds can be mailed to: Merriam PTO, 11 Charter Road, Acton MA 01720. If your employer needs further information or paperwork completed, please have them contact our Treasurer, Shirlee Stein (ss.stein@verizon.net).
